Bold Move: Hyundai Advocates for Continuity in Infotainment Choices With CarPlay and Android Auto
Hyundai’s Winning Formula: Flexibility and Options
Hyundai is riding high on a wave of success in the US market, with a record-breaking November sales month driven by its electric and hybrid vehicles. It’s no surprise that the South Korean automaker is feeling confident about its approach to meeting the demands of drivers. One key aspect of its strategy is offering a flexible range of options for drivers, and the latest example of this is its commitment to continue supporting CarPlay and Android Auto.
Sticking with the Status Quo
In a recent interview, Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president of product planning at Hyundai, confirmed that the company will continue to offer both CarPlay and Android Auto in its vehicles. This decision comes after witnessing the backlash that followed General Motors’ decision to stop offering these apps in its vehicles. According to a McKinsey study, not having these apps available can be a major turn-off for nearly half of new-vehicle buyers.
The Importance of Options
Boyle’s approach is to give drivers all the options they need, just like the company’s decision to provide access to both traditional combined charging system (CCS) ports and Tesla’s NACS charging ports in its new Ioniq 5. This flexibility is key to meeting the diverse needs of drivers.
The Future of In-Car Connectivity
While some manufacturers, like Tesla and Rivian, have opted to develop their own in-car connectivity systems, Boyle believes that CarPlay and Android Auto may eventually be replaced by better alternatives. However, for now, Hyundai is sticking to its philosophy of covering all the bases.
Hyundai’s Winning Formula
By offering a flexible range of options and keeping up with the latest technology, Hyundai is demonstrating its commitment to meeting the demands of drivers. As the auto industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how other manufacturers respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by the rise of electric and hybrid vehicles.
