Uncover the Shocking Thinness of iPhone 17 Air: Exclusive Leak Revealed

The Rumored iPhone 17 Air: a Svelte Device with Apple’s Own Modems

Rumors about an upcoming iPhone 17 Air or iPhone 17 Slim model have been circulating, and now we have more information on just how thin this device might be. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to be around 2 millimeters (0.08 inches) thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro.

This would be a significant reduction, given the iPhone 16 Pro’s 8.3 mm (0.33 inches) thickness, representing a 24% decrease. This would make the iPhone 17 Air the thinnest iPhone ever, beating the iPhone 6’s 6.9 mm (0.27 inches) thickness.

The slimming down is attributed to Apple’s plan to use its own modem chip in next year’s iPhones, rather than relying on Qualcomm’s chips. We’ve heard about this before, and Gurman has now confirmed it again.

Chipsets and Screens

As for the iPhone 6, remember how thin that was? It’s the thinnest iPhone ever.

We’ll first see the new Apple modem in the iPhone SE 4, expected in March 2025. Then, it will be rolled out across the iPhone 17 models, with an improved version ready for the iPhone 18 in 2026.

Apple is also planning to use its own modem chipset to add cellular connectivity to Macs and the Apple Vision Pro, a development that’s unlikely to happen before 2026, as the technology needs to be further developed.

Design Rumors and Features

The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to lack a physical SIM card slot to keep it as thin as possible, while it may introduce a screen that’s thinner and more efficient than the current iPhone displays.

All this slimming down will eventually help Apple develop its first folding iPhone, according to Gurman. However, that device is unlikely to launch before 2026 at the earliest – but it is now reportedly on the way.
