The Weirdest, Wildest, and Most Unusual Off-Roaders You’ve Ever Laid Eyes On
In the Morocco National Auto Museum, you’ll find a remarkable section dedicated to one-of-a-kind, off-the-beaten-path off-roaders. Here, you’ll discover everything from mint condition K5 Chevy Blazers to military vehicles, as well as custom Jeep Wranglers that have been either doubled in size or halved, like our latest find. Take, for example, a Wrangler that’s had its middle section removed, leaving two outside halves to create one of the most visually confusing vehicles I’ve ever seen.
Meet the "Narrow-Winged" Jeep Wrangler
We’ve previously written about the museum’s doublewide, eight-passenger Jeep Wrangler built from two nearly complete Wranglers fused together at the hip. However, this ultra-narrow version, which we were reminded of recently via footage on the move, is a different story. This is essentially the Jeep equivalent of taking a loaf of bread, tossing out every slice, and keeping just the ends. It’s so slim that the pair of headlights are only about an inch apart. The spare tire mounted on the tailgate is almost as wide as the entire body. It’s both unsettling and hilarious.
A Look Inside the Narrow Wrangler
This half-pint Jeep features only two tandem seats, with a passenger seat behind the driver’s. I would hope the driver’s seat folds forward to allow for passenger ingress, as this is a two-door Wrangler. Imagine if someone tried to do this with a long one!
Powering the Unconventional Wrangler
I have no idea what powers this thin Wrangler, but it’s not the typical 3.8- or 3.6-liter V6 engines found in the JK-generation Wrangler. Perhaps some sort of tiny inline-four engine? Could the engine be tilted upward, as indicated by the massive slanted hood bulge? Since it regularly drives in sand, with video proof of its adventures, it appears that its four-wheel drive remains fully functional. Whoever is building these mutant Jeeps isn’t just being silly – they’re also mechanically creative to get them working.
Catch the Cinematic Duo in Action
In the YouTube video below, courtesy of Saber, you can see both of these extraordinary Wranglers cruising through the desert, with a standard Wrangler in the middle for comparison. Saber might be dropping hints about their powertrains, but if so, the language barrier makes it difficult to decipher. Yet, that’s beside the point – I need to drive that half-Jeep now. It’s now my new life goal.
