Roblox Cracks Down on Safety: Major Overhaul for Pre-Tween Users After Child Protection Failures
New Parental Controls and Insights Are Coming Soon
Dear Parent,
We’ve been hard at work on some important changes that’ll be rolling out to your child’s account next month. New features designed to help you keep your child safe while they play on Roblox are on the horizon!
Roblox Accounts with Parent Privileges
In the next few weeks, we’re introducing Roblox accounts with parent privileges. By linking your account to your child’s, you’ll be able to view and update parental controls all from your own device. Gain insight into your child’s daily screen time, friends, and more. This is yet another step in our commitment to giving parents the tools they need to raise a generation of safe, responsible online users.
Changes You Need to Know
As a result of these changes, parents will no longer be able to set a parent PIN, use Account Restrictions, or receive account-related notifications to their parental email. Instead, you’ll need to use an account with parent privileges. Any settings previously set using a parent PIN will remain the same, but you’ll need an account with parent privileges to make changes going forward. Don’t miss out – you can always enable 2-step verification for added security on your account.
Updated Content Maturity Settings
We’re also introducing Content Labels, where experiences will be labeled based on the type of content users can expect, rather than age. You’ll be able to set limits on the type of content accessible to your child through the content maturity setting in parental controls.
New Default Settings for Users Under 13
As part of our commitment to safety, we’re updating default settings for our youngest users. Starting next month, users under 13 will need parent permission to access certain chat features, while users under 9 will need permission to access experiences with "Moderate" content maturity – which may include moderate violence or crude humor. Don’t worry, your child will be notified in advance of these updates.
What’s Next?
To continue receiving important updates about your child’s account, you’ll need to set up a Roblox account with parent privileges and link it to their account. When these changes take effect, your child will receive a notification inviting them to add a linked parent account, and we’ll send you an email with instructions.
At Roblox, we’re dedicated to building safety features and tools into our products. We’ll continue to explore ways to update our parental controls to make them even more effective for parents like you. Stay tuned for more updates!
Stay safe online with Roblox.
