Garmin Dash Cam Mini 3: A Tiny but Mighty Dash Cam

When it comes to compact dash cams, Garmin proves once again that it’s still the market leader with the Mini 3. This tiny dash cam shoots Full HD video with HDR at 30fps, and is so small it practically disappears behind your rear-view mirror, making for a near-seamless installation. Plus, its decent voice control system and smartphone app make adjusting settings and downloading stored footage a breeze.

Garmin Dash Cam Mini 3: Price and Availability

Launched in September 2024, the Mini 3 is part of a new family of dash cams from Garmin. As with previous generations of Dash Cam Mini, the 3 is Garmin’s entry-level model. Available now, the Mini 3 is priced at $149.99 / £149.99 / AU$249, making it slightly more expensive than the Mini 2, which arrived back in the summer of 2021. The new model is available now.

How it Performs

The Mini 3’s video quality is excellent, with clear and crisp footage even in low-light conditions. The camera’s field of view is wide enough to capture most of the road, and the 140-degree angle is sufficient for capturing the road ahead and the sides. The parking mode is a useful feature, but it requires a constant power cable and a subscription to Garmin’s Vault cloud storage service.

Additional Features

The Mini 3 has access to Garmin’s voice control tech, which works well and allows you to manually save recordings or turn the microphone on/off. You can also sync up to four Mini 3 dash cams together, making it a great option for those who want to capture footage from multiple angles.

Should You Buy the Garmin Dash Cam Mini 3?

If you’re in the market for a compact and easy-to-use dash cam, the Mini 3 is a great option. Its excellent video quality, wide field of view, and decent voice control system make it a solid choice. However, if you’re looking for a dash cam with more advanced features, such as GPS or a more extensive parking mode, you may want to consider other options.

How I Tested the Garmin Dash Cam Mini 3

I installed the Mini 3 in my own car and used it over the course of a couple of weeks. This included journeys during the day and at night, and gave me a good opportunity to inspect how the camera performs in various lighting conditions. I also tried out the Garmin Drive app, which is used to see a live view of the camera and adjust settings during the setup process.

Buy it if…

  • You want excellent video quality and a wide field of view
  • You’re willing to pay a premium for a high-quality dash cam

Don’t buy it if…

  • You’re looking for a dash cam with advanced features like GPS or a more extensive parking mode
  • You’re on a tight budget and can’t afford the premium price
  • You’re not interested in a compact dash cam and prefer a larger model.
