What to Expect From Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked Event

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked will officially kick off New Phone Season™️ on July 10 in Paris, with Google and Apple following suit shortly after that. We’re expecting to see the brand’s newest foldables and smartwatches. We’re also anticipating the arrival of the Galaxy Ring smart ring, which feels like it’s been teased non-stop since Samsung announced its advent back in January.

This year, Samsung timed its annual summer soiree to coincide with the Paris Olympics, hence its locale. Thankfully, you don’t have to make the trip and tune into the Galaxy Unpacked stream on July 10 at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET on YouTube and Samsung’s Newsroom. And, of course, Gizmodo will be here to recap everything that has been announced.

Here come more folding smartphones

We expect that Samsung will use this upcoming event to update the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold. Apple may not have entered the foldable game, but Android users have sure doled out the cash on the models currently available.

The Z Flip 6 will hopefully pack a punch now that Motorola has unveiled its Razr Flip, and brands overseas are ripe with flip phones with functional front screens. We expect a large Cover Screen with more usability beyond widgets and apps optimized for the front display.

The Z Fold 6, Samsung’s full-featured book-phone foldable, was also supposedly fully leaked (nothing is confirmed until Samsung says it’s so). The front display is likely to increase slightly to 6.3-inches from its predecessor’s 6.2-inches. The inside will have the same 7.6-inch display panel.

Expect the routine updates in specifications for both the Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. They’re both likely to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and 12GB of RAM. The Z Flip 6 could have a more significant 4,000 mAh battery–up from 3,800 mAh–split into two precisely so that you can shut it like a flip phone when someone or something pisses you off. The Z Fold 6 will likely have the same size 4,400 mAh battery as its predecessor.

New wearables, plus one Ultra

We will likely see Samsung trot out a new look for the Galaxy Watch 7, as the watch has been sporting the same style for three generations. But the most significant update is coming to folks looking for an Apple Watch Ultra equivalent. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra could be a more high-end version of the regular Galaxy Watch, complete with a bigger battery and a more rugged design.

A smart ring for the finger

It seems like the Galaxy Ring has been teased in perpetuity since Samsung announced it was coming later this year. Granted, we still need to learn more about it beyond what it looks like behind a pane of glass displayed at a conference. But we know the wearable is coming for your fingers to capture your heart rate and compete with other devices like the Oura smart ring.

Any surprises?

Although there have been rumblings about a reprise of the Samsung Galaxy tablets, the headlines about the upcoming Galaxy Buds 3 are easier to find. It’s about time for an update based on Samsung’s usual cadence. The hottest gossip is that the buds have been redesigned to resemble your friend’s AirPods Pro.
