Legendary voice actor and narrator Gilbert "Doc" Harris, best known for his iconic narration on the English version of Dragon Ball Z, has sadly passed away at the age of 76. Harris’ death was confirmed by Broadcast Dialogue, which reported that he passed away on Saturday, October 5, following minor surgery in September.

Harris had a long and illustrious career in Canadian radio, dating back to the 1960s. However, it was his work in animated series that cemented his legacy, with notable roles including Grogar in My Little Pony, Golem in Monster Rancher, and, of course, his iconic narration of Dragon Ball Z.

A Legacy in Voice Acting

Harris narrated Dragon Ball Z for over 223 episodes between 1996 and 2003, bringing his signature boom and guttural delivery to the series. Even though he’s no longer with us, his impact can still be felt in more recent dubs of the series, with Kyle Hebert’s narration bearing a striking resemblance to Harris’ iconic voice.

Additional Losses in the Dragon Ball Franchise

This year has been marked by significant losses for the Dragon Ball franchise. In March, series creator Akira Toriyama passed away, leaving behind a legacy of beloved manga, anime, and video games. His final posthumous works included the Sand Land RPG and the upcoming anime Dragon Ball Daima.

The Dragon Ball franchise has been a cultural touchstone for decades, and it’s easy to forget that it’s approaching its 40th year. With the passing of iconic figures like Doc Harris, it’s a reminder that time marches on, and we must cherish the memories and legacies of those who have left an indelible mark on the world of entertainment.

A Legacy That Will Continue to Inspire

Though Doc Harris is no longer with us, his voice and legacy will continue to inspire and entertain fans around the world. His iconic narration of Dragon Ball Z will forever be etched in the minds of fans, and his impact on the world of voice acting will be remembered for generations to come.
