Ryujinx Emulator Shuts Down Amid Reports of Nintendo’s Intervention

The popular Nintendo Switch emulator, Ryujinx, has mysteriously shut down, citing an agreement with Nintendo. According to a representative of the emulator, Nintendo reportedly contacted the lead developer, gdkchan, offering a deal to stop working on the project and remove all related content from the internet.

As a result, the organization’s website, Ryujinx.org, now shows an empty page when visitors try to download the program. Most other pages, including guides, FAQs, and compatibility lists, no longer function. The Patreon page, where the community has over 800 members and generates $1,661 per month, remains active.

Community Response

Developers who contributed to Ryujinx posted messages on the Discord server, expressing their sadness and gratitude for the opportunity to work on the project. One team member shared that the emulator brought "life-changing" experiences to gamers, allowing them to play Nintendo Switch games on non-Nintendo platforms.

Others mentioned in-progress projects, including mobile ports of the emulator, which would have enabled players to access Switch games on their smartphones. Although the team intends to move on from Switch emulation, they believe in the importance of game preservation.
