Juno App for YouTube No Longer Available on Apple Vision Pro’s App Store

The Juno App: A Casualty of YouTube’s Web View Guidelines

The Apple Vision Pro, a revolutionary new Apple device, has been on the market for a few months now. While rumors swirled about YouTube’s plans to release an official app for the Vision Pro, it seems we’re still waiting. Thankfully, developers like Christian Selig have stepped in with alternative solutions. However, it appears that Google and Apple have other plans, and the Juno app is no longer available in the App Store.

So, what happened? Unfortunately, Google wasn’t satisfied with the way Juno modified the YouTube website for the Vision Pro. Christian Selig, the creator of Juno, reports that Google contacted him back in June, citing several issues with the app:

* It uses YouTube’s trademarks and iconography without permission

Selig argues that, in his opinion, it’s just a web view that makes the website appear more “visionOS”-like, without adding logos or modifying the video player. However, it’s clear that Google didn’t agree, and managed to get Apple to remove the app from the App Store.

The Effects of Juno’s Cancellation

The removal of Juno from the App Store makes it difficult for Vision Pro users to access YouTube native on their device. Now, they’re forced to use Safari to watch YouTube videos, which isn’t ideal. The app wasn’t just a simple app, either – it introduced support for 360-degree videos in June.

We’re left wondering why none of the major platforms are interested in bringing their own apps to visionOS yet. Could it be related to the App Store policies or the relatively small user base of the Vision Pro? The lack of attention from Netflix and Spotify’s apps for Vision Pro just adds to the mystery.
