Interestingly, the game’s development started with an idea similar to the Zelda Maker series, where players could create and share dungeons. However, the project evolved to focus on creating and sharing items, such as doors and candlesticks, to create original dungeons.

According to Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma, the gameplay shifted from creating dungeons to using copied-and-pasted items as tools to further the player’s adventure. This new direction was influenced by Aonuma’s idea to "upend the tea table," a phrase often attributed to Shigeru Miyamoto.
