Survive the Drop: Protect Your iPhone 16 Pro Max with Proven Toughness
Glass Isn’t Forever: The iPhone 16 Pro Max’s Breakability Tested
When it comes to our beloved iPhones, we expect them to withstand the rigors of daily life. But, let’s face it, glass is fragile, and sometimes, even the toughest cases can’t protect our devices from the inevitable drop. Recently, AllState conducted a breakability test on the iPhone 16 Pro Max, and the results were disheartening.
The Test
The insurance company used a special rig, known as "Dropbot," to drop the iPhone 16 Pro Max from a height of 6 feet onto a concrete sidewalk surface, face down. The screen shattered, and the display flickered before going dark. But, surprisingly, the phone still responded to haptic touch, suggesting that only the display might need to be replaced.
When AllState repeated the test with the back facing down, the glass around the camera array cracked, but the phone remained functional. This was a better result than the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which became inoperable after a similar drop test.
A Glimpse into Reality
As someone who’s been testing both the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro, I can attest that these devices are incredibly durable. However, I did accidentally drop the iPhone 16 Pro Max from a height of 3 feet onto a rugged floor, and it survived without a scratch. I also put cases on both phones, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max in a lovely Speck case and the iPhone 16 Pro in a silicon case.
While the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s case provided excellent protection, I noticed a scratch running almost the length of the phone a couple of days ago. I’m careful, but even I couldn’t prevent it. My point is that, as much as we try to protect our devices, there’s only so much we can do to safeguard the glass.
A Call to Action
AllState’s tests are a reminder that even the toughest cases can’t guarantee protection. We need to be realistic about the fragility of our devices and take steps to prevent accidents. Whether it’s using a case, being more mindful of our surroundings, or simply being more careful, we can reduce the risk of damage.
The Verdict
While the iPhone 16 Pro Max didn’t fare well in AllState’s drop tests, we’ll never know what hundreds of similar drops would’ve yielded. The breakability of these devices is not down to some build deficit, but rather a combination of factors, including luck. That’s why cases are so popular – they’re the one way of stacking the odds in our favor.
Stay Protected
If you’re looking for ways to protect your iPhone, consider investing in a high-quality case. Whether you prefer a rugged silicone case or a sleek leather wallet case, there’s a solution out there for you. By taking the right precautions, you can reduce the risk of damage and keep your device safe for years to come.
