iPhone 16 Pro Display Crisis: Debunking the Antennagate II Hype

iPhone 16 Pro Users Report Touchscreen Issues with Camera Control Button

The latest iPhone 16 Pro has been met with excitement, but some early adopters are experiencing a software-related glitch with the touchscreen. Users are reporting that when they accidentally touch the area next to the new Camera Control button, the entire display becomes unresponsive to touch.

The Problem

According to reports, the issue is triggered when the user’s skin accidentally touches the area next to the Camera Control button, causing the screen to become unresponsive until the user releases it. This is the only area that seems to cause the problem. One user on Reddit described the issue as: "If one’s skin accidentally touches the area next to the new camera control button first, the whole screen becomes unresponsive until released, except for the home bar. This is the only area that causes the issue."

The Theory

The working theory is that iOS 18 has a preventative accidental touch algorithm that’s doing its job a little too well. Videos posted online show the issue can be triggered if the user’s palm touches the area of the display next to the Camera Control button. This would also be backed up by reports that the issue is affecting owners of older iPhones.

Fix in Sight

It appears that Apple will be able to fix the issue with a slight software update in the days and weeks to come. This isn’t uncommon for new iPhone models, especially when they’re also rocking brand new software. Although there’s a slight similarity, this doesn’t seem to be as big an issue as the infamous Antennagate that blighted the iPhone 4 model in 2010.

Workaround

Ironically, just "holding it differently" would probably resolve this issue, but Apple is likely to be able to negate that need with a slight tweak of its software algorithm. We’ll keep you posted if and when this lands.
