Microsoft Store Gets a Fresh New Look and Performance Boost

The Microsoft Store has undergone a significant revamp, with a revamped interface and a major performance boost on the horizon. This move aims to modernize the app and make it more appealing to users.

This is thanks to Microsoft’s efforts to migrate the store to.NET 9 and incorporate Native AOT (Ahead-Of-Time compilation) technology.

Native AOT is a technique that compiles code before runtime, allowing for faster app loading times. We’ve already seen Microsoft’s plans to use this technology to speed up default Windows 11 apps like Photos and Phone Link. The idea is that the latest.NET framework will improve the overall performance of the Microsoft Store, making it faster to launch and navigate.

A senior software engineer at Microsoft, Sergio Pedri, confirmed that the Microsoft Store will benefit from better performance thanks to these measures. In a Twitter post, Pedri mentioned that the store is currently being migrated to.NET 9 and Native AOT, which will allow for incremental progress and reduce risk in the migration.

An Interface Change for More Effective App Management

Alongside the performance enhancements, the Microsoft Store has received an interface update that’s already live. The update introduces a new “Downloads” page, which allows you to track and manage updates for installed apps. This page displays the last update date and release notes for each app, making it easier to stay up-to-date.

The “Library” page, which lists all downloaded and purchased apps, has also received a makeover. It now features a handy search bar, making it easier to find specific apps.

Microsoft has been working to improve the store in recent years, including previous efforts to speed up performance. However, the Microsoft Store has received lukewarm reviews from users.
