Apple Eliminates Another iPhone Accessory in 2023: What’s Next?
The Evolving iPhone Box: Goodbye Stickers, Hello Simplicity
Are you nostalgic for the past when Apple’s iPhone came with a plethora of goodies in the box? For those who remember the original iPhone, the first-gen device came with a simple yet iconic setup: the iPhone itself, an iPhone stereo headset, a 30-pin to USB-A cable, a charging brick, a dock, and some stickers. Yes, you read that right – stickers! These colorful labels were a staple in iPhone boxes, but times are changing.
The Legacy of iPhone Stickers
Over the years, Apple has been simplifying the iPhone box, and the sticker trend is no exception. In May, Jon Gruber found that most consumers were okay with the idea of Apple dropping the stickers from new product boxes. This was a practice that dated back to the first iPhone model released in 2007. Fast forward to this year, and Apple’s M4-powered iPad Pro models and M2-powered iPad Air tablets no longer include stickers. The question on everyone’s mind was: would iPhone stickers meet the same fate?
The Verdict: Stickers Are Officially a Thing of the Past
According to an internal message sent to Apple Store personnel, the iPhone 16 series will indeed no longer include stickers. But here’s the thing: you can still ask for them! If you’re feeling bold, you can request the stickers without getting embarrassed. However, it’s likely that many iPhone 16 buyers will simply accept the change and move on.
Why the Change?
Back in May, John Gruber posted a poll to gauge public opinion on the impending end of stickers in the iPhone box. A whopping 62.5% agreed with Apple’s decision to stop wasting resources on the stickers, while 37.5% disagreed. When you invest a significant amount of money in a new phone, it’s understandable to want more bang for your buck. For some, seeing the charging brick return would be a more valuable gesture than receiving a sticker.
The Future of the iPhone Box
As the iPhone box continues to evolve, it’s clear that simplicity is the new wave. While some may lament the loss of the sticker, others will appreciate the streamlined experience. One thing is certain: the debate surrounding the iPhone box’s contents will continue to heat up.
