Steam Update: Improved Family Sharing Rolling Out to All Users for Seamless Gaming Experience

Steam Families: A New Way to Share Games with Your Loved Ones

Valve has finally rolled out its new Steam Families feature, making it easier for parents to share games with their families, manage parental controls, and approve game purchases for their kids. This feature has been in beta testing since earlier this year, and now it’s available for everyone.

Play Together, Without the Hassle

One of the biggest improvements with Steam Families is that multiple people can play games from a shared library at the same time. Imagine being able to play a game with your partner or family member while they’re playing a different game from the same library. This feature is a game-changer (pun intended!). However, if someone wants to play a game that’s already being played by someone else, they’ll need to purchase an additional copy.

Offline Play and Other Perks

With Steam Families, you can play shared games offline, making it perfect for families who love to game on-the-go. Each member of a Steam Family will have their own save games and earn their own achievements, so everyone can track their progress separately.

What You Need to Know

Steam Families are designed for immediate family members, including up to six close family members. Adults can leave a Steam Family at any time, but they’ll need to wait a year before joining a new family. Children can only be removed from a Steam Family by an adult or with the help of Steam support.

What Happens to Family Sharing?

The old Family Sharing feature will eventually be retired, so if you’ve been using that, it’s time to switch to Steam Families. Valve has provided a video explaining the changes and how to set up Steam Families.

Getting Started

To start using Steam Families, simply update your Steam client. The latest update includes a handful of other improvements, including a redesigned screenshots manager. With Steam Families, sharing games with your loved ones has never been easier.
