July Update: Chromecast with Google TV Rolls Out with Exciting New Features
Just before the new Google TV Streamer drops later this month, the Chromecast with Google TV is getting an update in July 2024. Even though Google has stopped making new dongles, they’ll still be available for purchase until inventory runs out, and software updates will keep on coming.
The latest update, STTE.240615.007 (built on STTL.240508.005), bumps the Android security patch level up to July 2024 from June 2024. It’s still running Android 12, but that’s not reflected in Google’s changelog just yet.
This update clocks in at 143 MB, which is bigger than the last one, which was a mere 71.94 MB. As usual, there are “Other bug fixes and performance improvements” under the hood.
This is the sixth Chromecast with Google TV update in just nine months – we’ve seen February, March, April, May, August, and September updates already, and Google’s already met its 2023 rollout goals: January, April, May, July, October, and December.
Later this year, we can expect a major update that will bring Android 14 and a “Home runtime” feature, which will turn the Chromecast with Google TV into a hub for Matter devices.
To get the update on your Chromecast with Google TV, head to Settings > System > About > System update.
