Unlock the Full Potential of PS5 Gaming with Astro Bot: Must-Have Exclusive Title
It’s 9 PM, and I’m running on fumes. The thought of sleeping is almost too exhausting. But, I have a job to do, so I’ll review Astro Bot on its release date – a deal I made with myself to play just two levels before calling it a night… Five hours later, my face is glowing with a silly grin, and I’m convinced I could knock down a brick wall. That’s how Astro Bot makes you feel.
Astro Bot is a collect-a-thon platformer where you control a robot named Astro on his mothership, surrounded by 300 of his robotic friends, some simple, others famous video game characters. Then, this clumsy, Xbox-green alien shows up, trashing the ship and scattering Astro’s friends across the galaxy.
This game is chock-full of standard platformer tropes, but what makes it special is how they’re presented. The levels have themes like jungles, volcanoes, and pirate worlds – the works. Some powers, like the monkey upgrade or mouse shrink, seem standard at first, but their quirks make them delightfully unique. Remember when you had to stomp on Goombas with Mario? Astro Bot takes it up a notch by having you strangle goopy, green-tentacled enemies. You can even use liquid to propel Astro around a level – just like a robot F.L.U.D.D. from Super Mario Sunshine.
I won’t give away the power-up I found particularly cute since it’s a big part of the fun. However, it did leave me feeling frustrated, like being left hanging in a conversation. That’s when it clicked – the game doesn’t just communicate what to do but also how you should feel. It was as if the developers were teasing me, waiting for me to figure it out for myself. And boy, did I ever giggle like a toddler with the gooey brain-spitting enemy!
Astro Bot has moments like these all over the place – I’d rescue a robot only to realize it was my friend helping me in the hub world. They’re so proud to aid in your adventure, like your buddy from the latest gaming session. Some have powers based on PlayStation-exclusive games like Horizon Zero Dawn and Uncharted, offering more nostalgia than I’ve had in a long while.
After my two-hour Summer Game Fest demo earlier this year, I knew Astro Bot would be special – a joyous platformer celebrating PlayStation’s history. It’s not just a simple game; it’s an experience that celebrates our love for gaming.
As I close this review, I’m reminded that games are all about love. Astro Bot embodies this, reminding us why we play, make, write about, and share these amazing experiences with our friends and family. Even when they keep us up all night, we wouldn’t trade it for the world.
